Wong Chun Pong

Wong Chun Pong began learning ceramics in 2006 and enjoys studying the characteristics of different types of clay, while also finding pleasure in the creative process. Chun Pong excels at shaping well-rounded forms, crafting smooth and graceful lines with a gentle appearance. Among them, "Pineapple Bun Man" stands out as the most iconic piece. Since 2009, Chun Pong has become a "Ci-fu", teaching the public and sharing ceramics techniques. The Back Story

Pong has always been deeply into creating round and plump forms, as evident in his works. According to his mother, it stemmed from his fondness for the feel of round objects on his hands, as he loved rolling playdough into tangyuan-sized balls when he was small. In fact, Pong's interests are not limited to roundness, but extends to the pursuit of scale. Over the years, he has created numerous large-scale works. One of these works, created in commemoration of a teacher, is on display at the St. Stephen's Girls' College campus and reaches the height of a regular adult.

Pong has an impressive touch and keen observation. When introduced to a book in the studio about different types of clay, Pong scrutinized and laid his hands on every single photo of the different clays, reading by touch. From then on, he is able to distinguish between all types of clay by touch, being the natural ceramicist that he is. Pong's creative themes revolve around his family. One of his sets of works Mom with Trolley, featured at the 10th anniversary exhibition "Clay Gives Characters, Pottery Gives Joy (2009)", shows the pleasant times he had shopping at the supermarket with his mother. Family is a primary motive in Pong's creative endeavors.
