Michael J. STRAND 是南達科他州立大學的教授及視覺藝術系主任。他從陶瓷器皿的創作開始，漸漸融入到社區參與上，並探索工藝作為社會改變催化劑的可能性。

在2016年5月，他在新北市立鶯歌陶瓷博物館進行「Misfit Cup Liberation Project」的藝術計劃。是次創作為他近年在本地及國際間進行的項目延伸，並讓他被《Ceramics Monthly》提名為「2015年年度陶藝家」。他亦是2014-16年Bush Foundation的成員，主力研究如何通過功能設計，促進巴西、台灣、南非、及歐洲等地的跨文化溝通。近期他亦先後被選入International Academy of Ceramics，及在2016年加入American Craft Council的受託人理事會。

Michael J. STRAND is Professor of Art and Head of Visual Arts at North Dakota State University. With a background as a functional potter, Michael’s work has moved seamlessly into social and community engagement while remaining dedicated to the traditional object as he investigates the potential of craft as a catalyst for social change.

In May 2016 Strand's “Misfit Cup Liberation Project" took place at the Yingge Ceramics Museum in Taipei, Taiwan. This work is an extension of recent national and international projects that led to Strand being named “2015 Ceramic Artist of the Year” by Ceramics Monthly. Strand is a 2014-16 Bush Foundation Fellow which focused on the potential of functional design to facilitate cross-cultural communication extending from Brazil, Taiwan, South Africa and Europe. Strand was also recently elected to the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) - and joined the board of Trustees for the American Craft Council in 2016.
